Get member emergency contacts

GET /api/members/{memberId}/emergency-contacts

Success: 200 OK

Overview

Retrieves the people to ring if something happens to a member at a site. A member can have any number of emergency contacts, or none.

The contacts are wrapped in an object with a single emergencyContacts array — the response is not a bare array, so read response.emergencyContacts rather than iterating the body.

A member with no contacts recorded returns 200 with an empty emergencyContacts array. A member id that does not exist returns 404, so the two cases are distinguishable. Unlike most favourites and personalisation endpoints, this one does allow linked members: a primary member's token can read the emergency contacts of a member linked to them.

This is health and safety data about a named individual. Treat it as sensitive and only fetch it when you have a reason to.

Endpoint

GET {base_url}/api/members/{memberId}/emergency-contacts

{base_url} is the environment URL issued to your integration. See Authenticating with Gladstone APIs.

Path parameters

NameTypeRequiredDescription
memberIdinteger (int32)YesThe member whose emergency contacts you want. Must be greater than 0 — 0 (the non-member record) and -999 (a purged member) are rejected with 400, not 404. With a member-scoped token this may be the token's own member or a member linked to them.

curl -X GET '{base_url}/api/members/{memberId}/emergency-contacts' \

Response fields

FieldTypeDescription
emergencyContactsarray of objectEvery emergency contact held against the member, in no guaranteed order and with no priority ranking — the platform does not mark one as the primary contact, so if that matters to you, decide it yourself. Empty when the member has none.
emergencyContacts[].idinteger (int32)The contact record's own id. Use it to address the contact when updating or deleting it. It is not a member id: an emergency contact is free text and is not required to be a member of the centre.
emergencyContacts[].contactNamestringThe contact's name as staff typed it — a single free-text field, not split into first and last name.
emergencyContacts[].contactNumberstringThe telephone number to ring, exactly as entered. It is not normalised, validated or formatted by the platform, so expect spaces, country codes and local formats to vary, and do not assume it is dialable without cleaning.
emergencyContacts[].relationshipstringHow the contact relates to the member, such as Mother or Partner. Free text set by staff, not a code from a fixed list, so do not switch on its value. May be empty when nobody filled it in.
