# How to Manage Junior Memberships and Guardian Bookings

## Problem
This article explains how to set up and manage junior memberships, how guardians can purchase junior memberships using Go Join, and how guardians can book activities on behalf of junior members. This is useful when configuring or supporting membership journeys where a guardian manages bookings for a junior member.

## Resolution

### How to Configure Junior Member Management

1. **Open Operator Configuration**
   - Go to: Operator > Configuration > Modules > Configure.

2. **Set Online Account Age**
   - Search for "Age at which a person can have an online account."
   - Select *Manage*, set the appropriate value (e.g., "13"), and Save.
   - If a member’s age is less than this value, they will be considered a junior member who cannot have their own account and will not be prompted to enter an email address.

3. **Set Guardian Consent**
   - Again, search for the "Age at which a person can have an online account" setting.
   - Select *Manage*, set the appropriate value (e.g., "16"), and Save.
   - If a member joins and their age is less than this value but above the setting in the previous step, they will be prompted to enter an email address to create their own account.

4. **Enable Linked Member**
   - Search for the "Enable Linked Member" setting.
   - Select *Manage*, set the value to "1", and Save.
   - This enables the Linked tab in My Account, allowing guardians to view their junior members.

5. **Enable Book for Others**
   - Search for the "Book for Others" setting.
   - Select *Manage*, set the value to "1", and Save.
   - This allows the guardian to make and manage bookings for junior members.

### How to Purchase a Junior Membership

1. **Select the Membership**
   - In Go Join, select the location, membership, and duration for the junior membership (e.g., Junior > Direct Debit > Swim Only).

2. **Enter Junior Member Details**
   - Enter the junior’s details.
   - If the junior member is under the minimum account age (e.g., under 13), Go Join will prompt for an adult to create an account.
   - If the junior member is over the minimum account age but under the guardian consent age (e.g., over 13 but under 16), Go Join will prompt for an email address to create an account.

3. **Enter Guardian Details**
   - Enter the guardian’s details.

4. **Pay for the Membership**
   - Complete the payment for the membership.

**Important:** It is assumed the guardian purchases the junior membership on behalf of the junior. The guardian does not need to have their own membership.

### How to Book for Junior Members

1. **Open Book**
   - Search for a class or activity in the Book section and choose a slot.

2. **Select the Junior Member**
   - Select the toggle for the junior member.

3. **Book the Slot**
   - Select *Book*.

4. **Pay for the Booking**
   - Go to the basket and pay for the booking.

**Important:** The guardian can book for themselves and/or any non-members if applicable. The junior member’s booking appears in the basket separately from any booking for the guardian or additional non-member bookings.

## Notes

- **A guardian can only purchase one junior membership online.** To purchase additional memberships for an existing junior member, contact in-centre staff.
- **Junior memberships cannot be purchased in a multi-membership purchase flow.** Junior memberships must be purchased individually, not as part of a group purchase.
- **Existing members cannot purchase a junior membership for someone else online.**
- **Guardians cannot view or update a junior member’s account or contact information online after account creation.** Any updates must be made in-centre by the team.
