This article guides you through the programming of a MT850 USB scanner
Introduction
The MT850 reader is used with Plus2 and G360 for reading RFID wristbands issued to club members. When a band is presented to the reader the unique number encoded on the band is read by Plus2 or G360 via a virtual com port. The virtual com port is created by a software driver.
The following instruction explains how to install an MT850 USB reader and driver in order to create the virtual com port are required for Plus2 or G360
Installation Checks
Local admin may be required to complete the following actions
Check your current com port configuration in Device Manager
- Click Windows Start button
- Right click Computer and select Properties
- Click Device Manager
- Expand the Ports section and note down the current configuration
Connecting The Reader
Plug in the MT850 USB reader in to an available USB port using a micro usb cable. Windows will attempt to install a device driver automatically
- If the driver installation completes automatically then check the com port assignment in Device Manager
- If this fails will see the message below. Follow the driver installation steps
Driver Installation
Un-zip the required driver (64 bit or 32 bit driver) to a suitable location - Driver Download
Run Setup.exe and follow the installation steps, once installed you will see the following
Windows will automatically pick up the new driver and create a virtual com port

Checking Com Port Configuration
Open Device Manager and check the com port assignment as follows
- Click Windows Start button
- Right click Computer and select Properties
- Click Device Manager and expand the Ports section
The newly created com port will appear as a USB Serial Port (COM#) where # is the com port number assigned to the driver
Software Configuration
Log into G360 and launch one of the FOH modules, CheckIn as an example
Select the cog in the top right and then select Communication Ports
Select the com port the swipe reader is connected to and adjust the 2 following sections
