The purpose of the Gladstone360 POS Service is to facilitate communication between the Gladstone360 website, your database, and the PCs local resources such as a receipt printer or card scanner.
The information in this document will provide guidance on permissions needed to install the service, preparing the PC for the installation, Gladstone360 POS Service installation, and connection to your service.
To prepare the PC and install the service, you will need to log into the PC with a local admin account.
The Gladstone360 POS Service uses the Microsoft predefined LocalSystem account but it is recommended that a domain user is created with relevant permissions to run a service and gain access to the internet.
Preparation
-
Create a folder within C:\Program Files (x86)\ and name this MRM Software (ensure there is a space in the folder name)

-
Download the Software
- Login to Gladstone360 and launch the POS module
- Select the Download hardware service option

Note: There is no need to add the PC name as this is automatically applied to the service name. When choosing a name, it is good practice to use one that will easily identify the service installed on your PC e.g., ReceptionPC or GymPC)
- Select the ‘Start Download’ button
- Allow the download from the browser if prompted (Chrome usually only prompts the user to approve the download once but Edge will prompt the multiple times). See the Troubleshooting section for guidance on allowing the software download.
Install the Software
-
Open File Explorer > go to your Downloads folder > right click the POS.ServiceInstaller.msi file > select Install
- If you see the popup box below, select More info then Run Anyway
- A pop up box will appear asking if you want to allow the app to make changes to your device. Select Yes to install and if this has been successful you will see a message on screen and a new Gladstone POS service will be shown within Windows Services.
- If the installation fails then this will need to be done through Command Prompt. See video clip and steps below for instructions:
- Using the search bar on the PC, key in the letters cmd then right click Command Prompt and run as admin - a black box will appear
- Change directory to the Downloads folder e.g., C:\Users\HMcNamara\Downloads
- Key in the line below to install the G360 hardware service:
msiexec.exe /i POS.ServiceInstaller.msi /l*v install.txt - Hit the enter/return key on your keyboard
Connect to the Service
-
Select ‘Cancel and Log Out’ to return to the Gladstone360 home page
-
Launch the POS module
- Select the required site and then the hardware service from the dropdown list:
- The POS module will now be accessible.
Upgrading the Service
- When required Gladstone will push out a new version of Gladstone360 primarily to resolve software issues
- When this happens each PC at site that has a hardware service installed will be prompted to update this service
- When logging into Gladstone360 after a software update you will receive the following message, click Update
- Failure to click on the Update message will result in you being asked each time you log back into the system
- To confirm or check the local hardware service has been upgraded click the cog in the top right hand corner of the screen, select PC Settings and then the Update Hardware Service button
- When you click update, you will see the following message
- The bell indicator will turn orange during the update and then green when it completes
Troubleshooting
Chrome

Edge
- Select the Allow option on the left-hand side of the screen when prompted then select the Download icon on the right hand side of the screen:
- Hover over the POS.ServiceInstaller.msi file > Select the ellipsis > Select Keep:
- Select Show More > Keep Anyway:
- To view the download’s location, select the folder icon:
You should now see 2 files in your downloads folder:
-
POS.ServiceInstaller.msi
-
POS.ServiceInstaller.txt
Unable to download the service
- Permissions issue. Please discuss your user account permissions with your IT team
- Ask IT to Whitelist the Gladstone360 URL and all folders and file paths this uses
Unable to install the service
- User rights - ensure you have local admin rights before attempting to install the service
- Have you created the MRM Software folder?
- Are the correct files being installed?
If you have downloaded the files multiple times then there will be a number beside the file name e.g., POS.ServiceInstaller (1).msi and POS.ServiceInstaller (1).txt this will cause the install to fail as the file names are incorrect.
To resolve: delete all POS.ServiceInstaller.msi and POS.ServiceInstaller.txt files from your downloads folder then download the files again.
Service isn't showing on the dropdown menu
- Confirm you have selected the correct site from the dropdown list
- Search for Windows Services on your PC and confirm the Gladstone360 POS Service is running, set to automatic (delayed start) and the Log On As account is LocalSystem
- Is another user accessing the service from their PC?
