# How to Use Linked Membership Features in Gladstone Go

HTML version: [How to Use Linked Membership Features in Gladstone Go](https://support.gladstonesoftware.cloud/kb/how-to-use-linked-membership-features-in-gladstone-go)

## Problem
Members and membership administrators need to know how customers buy a group membership, link people to it, book for linked members and manage who can see their bookings in Gladstone Go.

## Resolution

1. **Check the prerequisites**
   - Linked memberships must already be configured; see [Group, Junior and Linked Memberships in Gladstone Go](../gooperator/group-junior-and-linked-memberships-in-gladstone-go.md).
   - The customer must have a Gladstone Go account.

2. **Buy a group membership**
   - Customers who **can** buy a group membership: new members, existing members without a group membership, and primary members with an existing group membership.
   - Customers who **cannot**: existing non-primary members linked to a group membership (people already in someone else's group), and junior members.
   - The purchase flow depends on your tag set-up. Include a Membership Type such as *Group*, *Joint* or *Family* so members find the right membership easily.
   - Only the primary member's details are needed at purchase. Linked members are added afterwards.

3. **Add linked members**
   - Log in to Gladstone Go and go to `My Account > Linked`.
   - Click **Add Member** (or **Add Linked Member**), enter the person's first name, last name, date of birth and email, and click **Send Link Request**.
   - If the person already exists (same name and email, including as a non-member), they are linked without creating a duplicate, and get an invitation to accept.
   - If they do not exist, Go says so and offers to create them. The record is created and linked, and Go emails them a welcome email with a link that takes them through joining. They do not have to finish their own sign-up before being linked.

4. **Book activities for linked members**
   - In Go Book, choose the class or activity and a time slot, and select **Book Now**.
   - Use the toggles to choose whether you are booking for the primary member and/or each linked member or junior. Pricing may vary depending on each person's active memberships.
   - Click **Book**, then pay in the basket. Each person appears as a separate booking in the basket and can be cancelled on its own.
   - You can book for linked members and non-members in the same transaction.

5. **View and manage linked members' bookings**
   - Go to `My Account > Bookings > My Bookings`. By default, the primary member sees everyone's class and activity bookings together.
   - **Opting out (adults only)**: an adult linked member can stop the primary from booking for them or seeing their bookings from their own account: `My Account > Linked` > set the toggle to **disabled**. Juniors cannot opt out.

## Notes

- **Only the primary member** (or guardian) can book for others, and only when **Enable Book for Others** is switched on; see [Enabling 'Book for Others' Feature](../goconsumer/enabling-book-for-others-feature.md).
- **Who cannot be added**: people already linked to another primary, people in another group, and existing junior members. Once someone has been added to a group, they cannot buy their own group membership.
- An existing member cannot buy a membership for someone else online.
- Guardians cannot view or update a junior's account details online. Your in-centre team can.
- Online bookings cannot be edited once made, only cancelled, and paid bookings cannot be cancelled online.
- **The primary cannot link someone**: the person may already be linked to another primary or group, or be a junior member.
- **The primary cannot book for a linked member**: the linked member may have disabled the primary's access in their own account.
