GoMobile: Image Display Guidelines

Problem

Users need to understand which images can be displayed in GoMobile and how to configure them for different sections of the app, such as promoted items, external links, and site images.

Resolution

1. Promoted Items / New Classes and Activities

   • Images for the cards at the top of the GoMobile home screen are configured directly against activities in the database.
   • Images can be specified as a file name (e.g., cycling.png). These are retrieved from blob storage in Azure linked to the environment.
   • Alternatively, an image URL can be provided to display an image hosted at any web-accessible location.
   • It is recommended that these images are sized at 720px x 265px.
   • Activity images are automatically allocated during initial app configuration by the Infrastructure Team based on keywords in the activity name and description, using a stock image collection hosted by Gladstone in Azure.

2. External Links

   • Images for links shown on the GoMobile home screen can be configured in the External Web Links section of GoOperator.
   • Images can be specified by file name (e.g., cycling.png) and are sourced from Azure blob storage.
   • An image URL may also be provided for images hosted elsewhere on the web.

3. Site Images

   • Site images can appear in a carousel on the site information screen.
   • These can be configured in the siteimages table in the database or through the site information section of Plus2 or Operator.
   • Multiple images can be assigned to a site.
   • An image URL can be used to display images from any web-accessible location.

Notes

• The cards displayed on the home screen have limited size, so some images may not be suitable for display.
• Image recommendations:
  • Use images with a clear focus object or person (e.g., sports equipment).
  • Place the focus object in the foreground.
  • When displaying images together, choose similar styles and complementary color palettes.
  • Ensure the image serves a functional purpose on-screen.
  • Avoid emphasis on a person's face or other personal attributes.
  • Optimize file size for fast loading performance.
• All images used in the app must have determined source origin and appropriate licensing.
