GoMobile Access QR Code Length

Problem

Some access control hardware (the hardware that reads a member's QR code at entry) only accepts QR codes up to a certain number of characters. GoMobile — Gladstone's consumer mobile app, see GO Mobile in the glossary — generates QR codes for member entry, but the standard QR code length may not be compatible with all types of hardware, especially older or non-standard systems.

Resolution

  1. Check Hardware Compatibility
Before you commit to GoMobile, check that your access control system is compatible with the standard QR code length.

  2. Standard QR Code Length
The GoMobile app generates QR code values of 24 or 26 characters by default, which works with standard hardware installed by ASP, a marketplace supplier of access control hardware.

  3. Alternative Configuration for QR Code Length
If your access control hardware cannot accept the standard length:

    • Tell your Gladstone project manager during your implementation that you need an alternative QR code length (typically 16 characters).
    • Make sure this requirement is included in your project requirements.
    • Gladstone sets the chosen QR code length for your app. You do not need to change anything yourself.
  4. Changing QR Code Length After GoMobile Is Live

    • If you need to change the QR code length after your app is live, raise a case with Gladstone Support at Raising a support case.
    • A new app version/build will be required. The update must be reviewed and approved by Apple and Google, which can take up to 5 days.
