## Problem

You need to install and configure the Gladstone360 Hardware Service on a new PC to allow Gladstone360 to communicate with local devices, such as receipt printers and scanners, from the POS module.

## Resolution

1. **Prepare the PC**
    1. Create a folder called `MRM Software` in `C:\Program Files (x86)`.
    2. Update the folder’s security permissions:
        - Right-click the folder and select **Properties**.
        - Go to the **Security** tab and click **Edit**.
        - Click **Add** and search for `Everyone`.
        - Assign **Full Control** permission and save.

2. **Download the Hardware Service**
    1. Log in to Gladstone360 and open the **POS module**.
    2. Select **Download hardware service**.
    3. Choose your site and enter a name for the service.
*Note: The PC name is added automatically.*
    4. Select **Start Download** and wait for the download to complete.

3. **Install the Software**
    1. Go to your **Downloads** folder.
    2. Run `POS.ServiceInstaller.msi`.
    3. If prompted with a security warning, select **More info** and then **Run anyway**.
    4. Confirm installation when prompted.
    5. If installation fails:
        - Run **Command Prompt as administrator**.
        - Navigate to your Downloads folder.
        - Run the following command:
          `msiexec.exe /i POS.ServiceInstaller.msi /l*v install.txt`

4. **Connect to the Service**
    1. Return to the Gladstone360 home page.
    2. Open the **POS module**.
    3. Select your site.
    4. Choose your hardware service from the dropdown menu.

5. **Tablet Setup (Optional)**
    - Non-Windows tablets cannot run the service directly.
    - Install the service on another PC, and enable **Portable Device** during setup.
    - Ensure the host PC remains powered on.

6. **Upgrading the Hardware Service**
    - When a new version is available, you’ll be prompted in Gladstone360 to update.
    - You can also update from **Settings > PC Settings > Update Hardware Service**.
