HTML version: [Honeywell Orbit MS7120 Scanner Configuration](https://support.gladstonesoftware.cloud/hardware/honeywell-orbit-ms7120-scanner-configuration)

**Applies to:** Gladstone360, Plus2

## Problem

Users need to configure a Honeywell Orbit MS7120 scanner so that it can be used with Gladstone360 or Plus2 on a Windows device. The scanner must be recognised as a serial COM port in Windows for barcode scanning functionality.

## Resolution

### Prerequisites

- Honeywell MS7120 scanner connected via USB
- HSM USB Serial Driver from the [Honeywell support article](https://sps-support.honeywell.com/s/article/How-to-Install-the-HSM-USB-Serial-Driver-for-Your-Honeywell-Printer-Windows-10-7-certified)
- Access to the Honeywell programming barcode PDF
- User permissions to configure Gladstone360

### 1. Install the USB Serial Driver

1. Download the latest HSM USB Serial Driver from the [Honeywell support article](https://sps-support.honeywell.com/s/article/How-to-Install-the-HSM-USB-Serial-Driver-for-Your-Honeywell-Printer-Windows-10-7-certified).
2. Extract the downloaded zip file.
3. Run `setup.bat` as Administrator.

### 2. Configure the Scanner

1. Plug the Honeywell MS7120 scanner into a USB port.
2. Wait approximately 30 seconds for Windows to initialise the device.
3. Scan the Honeywell USB Serial Programming Barcode (from the programming barcode PDF).

    - The scanner will reset multiple times with lights and beeps. This takes approximately 60 seconds.

4. Power cycle the scanner:
    1. Unplug the scanner.
    2. Wait 10 seconds.
    3. Reconnect the scanner to the same USB port.
    4. Wait for Windows to detect the device again (approximately 30 seconds).

### 3. Verify Installation in Windows

1. Open Windows Device Manager.
2. Expand **Ports (COM & LPT)**.
3. Confirm the scanner appears with an assigned COM port.

### 4. Configure the Scanner in Gladstone360

1. Log in to Gladstone360 and launch Contacts.
2. Select the configuration cog and choose **Communication Ports**.
3. Select **Edit** for the COM port identified earlier.
    - Module: Front of House
    - Device Type: Swipe Reader
4. Leave other settings as default and click **Save**.

The scanner will now appear as 'Swipe Reader' at 'Front of House' and is ready to use.

## Notes

- The MS7120 does **not** read 2D barcodes or QR codes.
- Follow all power cycle steps correctly for successful configuration.

### Troubleshooting

- **Scanner does not appear as a COM port:**
Ensure the driver is installed and the programming barcode was scanned correctly.
- **No COM port in Device Manager:**
Reconnect the scanner and confirm the driver installation completed successfully.
