HTML version: [Honeywell 7190g Scanner Configuration for COM Port Use](https://support.gladstonesoftware.cloud/hardware/honeywell-7190g-scanner-configuration-for-com-port-use)

**Applies to:** Gladstone360, Plus2

## Problem

The Honeywell 7190g scanner needs to be configured so that it is recognised as a serial COM port in Windows 10 or Windows 11. This configuration is required for the scanner to work with Gladstone360 or Plus2 applications.

## Resolution

### Configure the Scanner as a COM Port

1. **Connect the Scanner**
   - Plug the Honeywell 7190g scanner into an available USB port on your computer.
   - Wait approximately 30 seconds for Windows to detect and initialize the device.

2. **Scan the USB Serial Programming Barcode**
   - Obtain and scan the Honeywell USB Serial Programming Barcode.
   - The scanner will reconfigure itself as a serial device. During this process, the scanner will reset several times with flashing LEDs and beeping (this may take about 60 seconds).

3. **Power Cycle the Scanner**
   - Unplug the scanner from the computer to power it off.
   - Wait 10 seconds for Windows to register the disconnection.
   - Plug the scanner back into the *same* USB port.
   - Wait approximately 30 seconds for Windows to detect the device again.
   - The scanner setup is now complete.

### Verify the Scanner in Windows

1. **Open Device Manager**
   - Open Windows Device Manager.

2. **Check COM Ports**
   - Expand the device list and open “Ports (COM & LPT)”.
   - The scanner should appear as **USB Serial Device (COM#)**.
   - Note the COM port number shown (COM#).

### Configure in Gladstone360

1. **Open Communication Ports**
   - Log in to Gladstone360 and launch POS.
   - Click the configuration cog and select **Communication Ports**.

2. **Edit COM Port Settings**
   - Select **Edit** for the COM port identified previously.
   - Set:
     - **Module:** Front of House
     - **Device Type:** Swipe reader
   - Click **Save**.

The device will now appear as "Swipe reader" at "Front of House" and is ready for use.

## Notes

- **Important:** Ensure the power cycle steps are followed exactly. Skipping these may prevent the COM port from being created.
- **Troubleshooting:**
  - If the scanner does not appear as a COM port, make sure the USB Serial Programming Barcode was scanned correctly and repeat the power cycle steps.
  - If no COM port is listed in Device Manager, disconnect and reconnect the scanner using the same USB port and wait for Windows to initialize the device.
