# Welsh Translations in Gladstone Go

HTML version: [Welsh Translations in Gladstone Go](https://support.gladstonesoftware.cloud/gooperator/welsh-translations-in-gladstone-go)

## Problem
Go Operator administrators need to add their own translations for tags, activities and other items, so that customers who choose another language (for example Welsh) on Go Book and Go Join see your wording.

## Resolution

1. **Ask Gladstone to switch translations on**
   - Gladstone must switch translations on for your organisation first. Raise a case to ask for this, saying which language you need.

2. **Open the translations settings**
   - In [GO Operator](../guides/glossary.md), open the settings and search for **Translations**.

3. **Download the translation file**
   - Choose the item types to translate, for example tags, tag groups and activities.
   - Choose the language, for example **CY** for Welsh.
   - **Download the translation file**.

4. **Fill in the translations**
   - Fill in **only** the translation column. Don't change the columns marked "do not change".

5. **Upload the file**
   - Upload the file. The translations then show on Go Book and Go Join.

6. **Check the result**
   - Check Go Book and Go Join in that language.

7. **Translate items added later (if applicable)**
   - Download the file again with **Missing translations only** ticked.
   - Fill in the new items and upload the file.

## Notes

- **Before you start:** you need Go Operator access with the **Operator Admin** role, and your translated wording ready. No machine translation is used, and Gladstone doesn't translate the text for you.
- Go Operator fields don't have [Plus2](../guides/glossary.md)'s 25-character limit.
- Second-language text held in Plus2 for Connect isn't pulled through automatically. Enter it again using the translation file.
- Email templates aren't covered by the translation file. Add the second language in the email body (for example Welsh above English).
- Each extra language needs its own templates for communications. If an extra language is enabled without an SMS template, the SMS option can't find a template and won't show.
- When you send communications with several languages enabled, enter content for each language. Each member gets their chosen language, defaulting to English.
- **Troubleshooting:**
  - **The Translations option isn't in Go Operator:** translations haven't been switched on. Raise a case for Gladstone to switch them on.
  - **New tags show in English only:** they were added after the last upload. Download the file with **Missing translations only** ticked, fill it in and upload it.
  - **The upload doesn't work, or items are mismatched:** a "do not change" column was edited. Download a fresh file and fill in only the translation column.
  - **The SMS option disappeared after adding a language:** the extra language (for example EN-IE) has no SMS template. Remove the extra language, or add templates for it.
- **Contact Gladstone support** to switch translations on (include the language you need), or if the uploaded translations don't show after you've checked the file (include the file and the items affected).
