# Re-installing the G360 Access Control Service

HTML version: [Re-installing the G360 Access Control Service](https://support.gladstonesoftware.cloud/gladstone360/re-installing-the-g360-access-control-service)

## Problem
This article provides guidance for re-installing the G360 Access Control Service on a PC used to control gates, doors, or turnstiles. This should only be used if the system has previously been commissioned, tested, and verified as operational. For new installations or adding entry points, contact your Regional Sales Manager.

## Resolution

1. **Prerequisites**
    - Ensure you have local administrator privileges on the PC.
    - Download the required software from the provided source.

2. **Config File Preparation**
    1. Confirm the following folders exist. If not, create them:
        - `C:\Program Files (x86)\MRM Software\AccessControl`
        - `C:\Install`
    2. Move the downloaded software to `C:\Install` and rename the folder to `Access`.
    3. Create a backup copy of `AccessControlServiceInstaller.ini`.
    4. Open `AccessControlServiceInstaller.ini` using Notepad++ or a similar editor. The default config includes:
        ```
        ;Installation section defines installation directory
        [Installation]
        ServiceName=AccessControl.Service
        ServiceDisplayName=Gladstone Access Control Service
        ;Make sure the path exists
        InstallDir=C:\Program Files (x86)\MRM Software\AccessControl
        [ExternalURL]
        ;Web Api Website Url
        WebApiUrl=http://localhost/Gladstone360/Access/Api
        CheckApiIsValidAtInstall=True
        [Config]
        ;Install for the following Site ID
        Site=
        ```
    5. Adjust the following sections:
        - Update `WebApiUrl` to use your live URL, for example:
          `WebApiUrl=https://yourdomain.gs-signature.cloud/Gladstone360/Access/Api`
        - Set the `Site` value to your site prefix, e.g., `Site=HO` for Head Office. Site prefix can be obtained from Plus2 or Gladstone360.
    6. Save the file and re-open it to ensure your changes have been saved.

3. **Running the Installer**
    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
    2. Navigate to `C:\Install\Access`.
    3. Type `dir` to ensure you see `AccessControlServiceInstaller.ini` and `.msi`.
    4. Run the installer with the following command:
        ```
        msiexec.exe /i AccessControlServiceInstaller.msi /lei install_1.txt
        ```
    5. A progress bar will appear. Look for the "INSTALLATION SUCCESSFUL!" message upon completion.
    6. If there are any errors, review `install_1.txt` for the word "error" and check:
        - Command Prompt is running as Administrator.
        - Required folders are created.
        - WebApiURL and Site prefix are correct.
    7. If re-running the installer, increment the number in the log file name (`install_2.txt`, etc.) for tracking.

4. **Post Installation Checks**
    1. Open the Windows Services panel and verify that "Gladstone Access Control Service" is running.
    2. If running, stop the service to allow configuration changes.

5. **Service Config File Configuration**
    1. Go to `C:\Program Files (x86)\MRM Software\AccessControl` and locate `AccessControlHardwareService.exe.config`. Make a backup of this file.
    2. Open `AccessControlHardwareService.exe.config` with Notepad++ or similar.
    3. Find the `AppSettings` section. By default, COM port settings are commented out (``). Uncomment the relevant line(s) for the required COM port.
    4. Use Device Manager to confirm which COM port is connected to the hardware.
    5. Set the COM port value as needed. The configuration line format is:
        ```
        Key=[COM port]
        Value=[7 comma separated values]
        ```
        - Adjust only the required sections in **bold**:
            - BaudRate (typically 9600)
            - DataBits (usually 8)
            - StopBits (usually 1)
            - handshake (typically None)
            - Parity (typically None)
            - NumberOfBoards (number of connected hardware ID boards, including main and secondary boards)
            - SwipeReaderPrefix (as configured in GMC or Plus2)
    6. Save the file.
    7. Start the "Gladstone Access Control Service" to apply changes.
    8. Review Windows application event logs to confirm the service has started successfully (look for com port activity and correct board/software versions).

6. **Testing the G360 Access Module**
    1. Go to the main G360 URL and log in.
    2. Open the Access module, making sure the correct Site and Screen layout are selected.
    3. Using a membership card, fob, or QR code, swipe at each entry point and ensure that data is reported back.

## Notes

- Only use this procedure for re-installation purposes where the system has already been commissioned and tested.
- For new access control setups or adding more entry points, contact your Regional Sales Manager.
- If assistance is needed for site or swipe reader prefix information, consult your internal Plus2 system administrator. Warnings in the event logs regarding "gantner" can be ignored.
