# Gladstone360 PC Settings, Hardware Service and Card Terminals

## Problem
You need to set up a Gladstone 360 PC so its till and card terminal (PED) work through the right hardware service, and know what to do when a card payment doesn't reach 360.

## Resolution

1. **Install and select the hardware service**
   - Each PC that takes payments needs its own hardware service, installed locally, which links the PC's browser session to its card terminal (PED), cash drawer and receipt printer. See [Setting Up and Naming Gladstone 360 Hardware Services](setting-up-and-naming-gladstone-360-hardware-services.md).

2. **Configure PC settings**
   - Click the **cog** > **PC settings**. It holds the hardware service, current site, **designation**, check-in profile, screen layout and till.
   - **Designation**: Reception for front desks, Office for back-office tills. A back-office till needs its own hardware service with the designation **Office**, and a separate cash-up.
   - Each PC shows the till chosen at first login and remembers changes made here. If a till doesn't show, the PC is set to a different till here.

3. **Take integrated card payments**
   - An integrated transaction sends the amount from 360 to the PED and waits for the result. The page must hold the hardware service connection (green **bell**); see [Logging In to Gladstone 360 and Using the Hardware Service](logging-in-to-gladstone-360-and-using-the-hardware-service.md).
   - A payment keyed directly on the terminal, or taken while disconnected, doesn't update 360.

4. **If the terminal is down or the result doesn't come back**
   - Confirm the payment succeeded on the terminal.
   - Record it in 360 with the approved **manual card** method.
   - Record any reference required.
   - Reconcile the terminal and 360 totals.
   - If callbacks fail repeatedly, investigate the PED software and firewall. Updating the PED software (its built-in firewall can block the reply) has fixed this for several sites.

## Notes

- **Permissions**: PC settings need *View/Edit PC Settings*.
- **Wrong terminal**: a PC using another PC's hardware service puts sales on the wrong terminal. Check this first when reading totals don't match.
- **Payment Manager**: integrated card payments go through Payment Manager. Its GMC settings are completed by Gladstone during set-up; contact Gladstone Support for any change. See [Gladstone 360 CheckIn POS Payment Manager, Prospect Email and Toastr Settings](gladstone-360-checkin-pos-email-payment-manager-and-toastr-settings.md).
- **Online payments**: online and Pay by Link payments don't use the hardware service; they go through GladstonePay.
- **Card terminal limits**: contactless and phone payment limits on the PDQ (for example €50) are set by the payment provider. Ask Gladstone to request a higher limit (for example €1,500) through the finance partner if members pay larger amounts by phone.
- **Printers**: receipt and ticket printers are set in **cog > Printers**. See [Configuring Point of Sale Peripheral Hardware in Gladstone360](configuring-point-of-sale-peripheral-hardware-in-gladstone360.md) and [How to Add a Receipt Printer to Plus2 or Gladstone360](how-to-add-a-receipt-printer-to-plus2-or-gladstone360.md).
