HTML version: [Gladstone 360 POS Till Permissions](https://support.gladstonesoftware.cloud/gladstone360/gladstone-360-pos-till-permissions)

## Problem
You need to know which permission lets a 360 POS user open the till, take payments, give refunds or discounts, run readings or configure tills and PC settings, or why one of those options is unavailable.

## Resolution

These permissions are set on **POS roles** in `GMC > Security Configuration > Permissions`, grouped under the headings below.

1. **Modules and POS Access**

   | Permission | What it allows |
   |---|---|
   | **CheckIn** (Modules) | Open Check-in after logging in. |
   | **POS** (Modules) | Open POS after logging in. |
   | **POS Login** (POS Access) | Log in to POS as an application. |

2. **Configuration**

   | Permission | What it allows |
   |---|---|
   | **Add Till** | Add a till in till configuration. |
   | **Delete Till** | Delete a till. |
   | **Edit PC Settings** | Edit PC settings (hardware service, site, designation, check-in profile, till). |
   | **Edit Till** | Edit a till and its buttons. |
   | **View PC Settings** | View PC settings. |
   | **View Till Configuration** | View till configuration. |

3. **Hardware Service**

   | Permission | What it allows |
   |---|---|
   | **Automatic Update** | Update the hardware service on the client PC. |
   | **Download Installer** | Download and install the hardware service on the client PC. |

4. **Member Sales**

   | Permission | What it allows |
   |---|---|
   | **Apply Cashless** | Apply cashless to a contact (legacy; not supported by Go). |
   | **Apply Discounts** | Apply a percentage or value discount without restriction. |
   | **Apply Loyalty** | Apply loyalty to a contact (legacy). |
   | **Apply Membership Discounts (one-off fees only)** | Discount a membership's one-off fees (joining fee, admin fee, add-on products). Membership fees themselves can't be discounted at front of house. |
   | **Cancel Booking** | Cancel a booking. |
   | **Find Invoice** | Use the **Find Invoice** till button. |
   | **No Sale** | Use **No Sale** to open the cash drawer without a sale. |
   | **Pay Invoice** | Pay sales (unpaid sales and invoices). |
   | **Pay Invoice For Others** | Take payment for more than one contact in a single basket. |
   | **Pay Later** | Move sales from the basket into sales history to be paid later. |
   | **Print Receipt** | Print a receipt. |
   | **Process Refund** | Process a refund without restriction. |
   | **Purchase Product** | Buy a product. |
   | **Refund** | Start a refund. |
   | **Remove Basket Items** | Remove items from the basket. |
   | **Remove membership from basket** | Remove a membership from the contact's basket. |
   | **Reprint last transaction** | Reprint the last chip and PIN transaction processed on the PED. |
   | **Reprint receipt** | Reprint a receipt for a sale already paid. |
   | **Submit Chip & PIN offline transactions** | Send offline transactions stored on the chip and PIN device through to the payment provider. |
   | **View Basket** | View the Basket widget. |
   | **View Cashless Sales History** | View the cashless account sales history widget. |
   | **View Sales History** | View the Sales History widget. |

5. **Set up supervisor-authorised refunds (if applicable)**
   - Give the user **Refund** but not **Process Refund**. A supervisor then enters their own password at the same PC to authorise the refund.
   - There is no value-based refund limit.

6. **System Audit**

   | Permission | What it allows |
   |---|---|
   | **Archived Readings** | Open *Archived Readings* in POS readings. |
   | **Show Full POS Reading** | See the full contents of a reading, including the variance. Without it users get a restricted view with no variance. |
   | **Terminal Reading** | Run a terminal reading. |
   | **User Shift Reading** | Run a user shift reading. |
   | **X Reading** | Run an X reading. |
   | **Z Reading** | Run a Z reading. |

## Notes

- **Refund and discount authorisation codes**: the 2017 permission guide says a restricted user needs a **refund authorisation code** (for refunds) or a **discount authorisation code** (for discounts). The Refund Authorisation Code setting was removed in v1.8 (May 2016) and the Discount Authorisation Code setting in v1.9 (June 2016). Treat the supervisor-password model in step 5 as current.
- This list comes from Gladstone's 2017 POS and Check-in permission guide. Newer builds may have added, renamed or removed permissions; check the live Permissions screen when a name doesn't match.
