## Problem
You need to configure Point of Sale (POS) hardware, such as scanners, swipe readers, printers and cash drawers, in Gladstone360 after installing the device drivers, so the devices work in the POS, Contacts and CheckIn modules.

## Resolution

### Scanners and card readers

1. **Identify the COM port**
   - Open Windows **Device Manager** on the PC.
   - Find your device under **Ports (COM & LPT)** and note its COM port (for example COM7).

2. **Open Communication Ports in Gladstone360**
   - Log in to Gladstone360 with a user account that has configuration permissions.
   - From the Home screen, launch **Contacts**, select the configuration cog and choose **Communication Ports**.

3. **Configure the device**
   - Find the COM port you noted and select **Edit**.
   - Set **Module** to **Front of House** and **Device Type** to **Swipe Reader**.
   - Leave all other settings as default and click **Save**. The device is now ready for use in POS, Contacts and CheckIn.

### Point of Sale printers

4. **Open printer settings**
   - From the Home screen, launch **POS**, select the configuration cog and choose **Printers**.

5. **Configure the printer**
   - Set **Printer** to your receipt printer (for example EPSON TM-T88xx; the name may vary), **Font** to **Arial** and **Font Size** to **9**.
   - The ticket printer and ticket layout are set here too.
   - Use **Test Print** to confirm the printer works.

6. **Save**
   - Click **Save**. The printer is now ready for use in Gladstone360 POS.

## Notes

- **Prerequisites**: the hardware drivers are installed on the PC, the devices are visible in Windows Device Manager, and your user account can change configuration settings in Gladstone360.
- **Cash drawers** need no configuration in Gladstone360. The cash drawer connects directly to the POS printer and opens when a receipt prints. Make sure it is plugged into the correct port on the printer (usually labelled **DK** or with a cash drawer icon); the port looks similar to an Ethernet port, so check carefully.
- **Printer fonts**: another receipt printer guide recommends Font **A11** at size **8 or 9**; see [How to Add a Receipt Printer to Plus2 or Gladstone360](how-to-add-a-receipt-printer-to-plus2-or-gladstone360.md). Report alignment problems to Gladstone Support.
- Swipe readers and gates on a new PC may need their COM port set up by Gladstone or IT; see [Access Control – Entry Points and Entry Point Profiles](access-control-entry-points-and-entry-point-profiles.md).
